It's
just a small scratch, but once
noticed it's the kind of flaw that would drive many a watch owner to distraction
-- not to mention potential buyers if you want to sell the watch. This one on a Chronoswiss was "fixed"
with one of the Bergeon scratch pens -- the 6240 -- in the deft hands of a watch
collector.
Tips on using the Bergeon scratch removal pen
.
This tool from Bergeon will do a superb job removing light scuffs and hairline scratches from brushed or matt finished steel, but it takes a little practice.
I'd recommend working on one of your old watches or bracelets to learn how varying the pressure you apply affects the results. Use the lightest pressure to start, and always "brush" in the same direction as the existing finish. And gently blend the scratched area you are working on into the area that is not scratched.
On bracelets or cases that are a mix of polished and matt or brushed surfaces, I'd suggest taking some masking tape or the blue painter's tape to cover the polished surfaces so you don't accidentally brush them.
A caveat:... if you push really hard on the surface you're working with the pen, some of the fiberglass bristles in the tip may break off. So that they don't get on you, it's best not to work on a watch or bracelet holding it over your lap. Work over a clean hard surface - like a watchmaker would.
